For LDU Quito, this matchup inevitably brings back memories of what happened just one year ago.
The Ecuadorian side came extremely close to eliminating Palmeiras in the semifinals of the 2025 Copa Libertadores after winning the first leg 3-0 in Quito. However, the Brazilian club produced a spectacular comeback, winning 4-0 in São Paulo to advance to the final.
This time, the order of the matches is reversed, and that could represent an opportunity for the Ecuadorian side. LDU Quito will play the opening leg in Brazil before getting the chance to decide the tie at the Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado.
The Ecuadorian club arrives after eliminating Mirassol in the Round of 16 through a dramatic penalty shootout. Gonzalo Valle played a crucial role in that qualification and enters the quarterfinals as the goalkeeper with the most saves since the beginning of the 2026 Copa Libertadores group stage, with 31.
Deyverson Reunites With Palmeiras
One of the biggest storylines of the match will be Deyverson’s return to face a club that holds a special place in his career.
The LDU Quito striker scored the historic goal that gave Palmeiras its victory over Flamengo in the 2021 Copa Libertadores final, securing the Verdão’s third continental title.
Now, he will be on the other side.
