Nacional Potosí Ruins Independiente’s International Comeback in the Copa Sudamericana
Nacional Potosí made a statement in their Copa Sudamericana opener, securing a 2-0 victory over Independiente, the most decorated club in Copa Libertadores history. Playing at home, the Bolivian side capitalized on their conditions, with Víctor Abrego and Diego Diellos getting on the scoresheet.
The first half was a tight battle, with 51% possession for the hosts and 49% for Independiente. Both teams pushed forward but lacked precision in the final third, heading into halftime with the score still level.
Altitude & Rain Give Nacional Potosí the Edge
The second half saw Nacional Potosí take control, aided by the altitude and torrential rain at the Estadio Víctor Agustín Ugarte. Víctor Abrego broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, and with just seven minutes left, Diego Diellos sealed the win with a powerful header.

With this result, Nacional Potosí takes the early lead in Group A with three points, ahead of Boston River and Club Guaraní, who drew in their opener. Meanwhile, Independiente sits at the bottom with zero points, making their road to the knockout rounds even tougher.
