Why Rodrigo Garro Isn’t Playing in the Copa Sudamericana
The Corinthians midfielder Rodrigo Garro has travelled to Madrid, Spain, to treat a knee injury.
Sport Club Corinthians Paulista has recently won the state championship title for São Paulo, counting with spectacular performances from Argentine attacking midfielder, Rodrigo Garro.
Garro had been suffering from pain in his right knee for a while, but insisted to play for the state championship ‘no matter what,’ in efforts to achieve the first title in his career. He had been able to perform by receiving anesthesia, which eased the pain but did not treat the injury.
Corinthians announced he will now be spending a week in Madrid to treat a tendinopathy in his right knee. He will be going through an innovative procedure in a rehabilitation center to treat the overuse injury.
How long will Garro be away for?
Although the midfielder will undergo a treatment of only one week, Corinthians optimistically expect him to be off the field until June.
The club also prepares itself for the possibility of performing without him until after the Club World Cup break, which happens from mid-June to mid-July. Garro confirmed in an interview to ESPN that he will now take all the time he needs off until his knee is no longer inflamed.
This means Garro will be missing matches for the Brazilian Série A and the Brazilian Cup, as well as the group stage of Copa Sudamericana.
A struggle for Corinthians
The São Paulo state champions will now have to adjust for the Copa Sudamericana without one of their stars. Garro’s will to play to conquer the title resulted in absences for the following matches, as he now needs immediate medical treatment to avoid having to go under surgery.
Garro has built himself as a key player for Corinthians, showcasing unique playmaking skills. In 2024, he scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in the Série A, getting an award as the Best Midfielder in the competition.
Corinthians will now face Huracán on Wednesday, April 2nd for their first match of Copa Sudamericana.
