Bolívar Repeats the Dose Against Palestino and Sets a Date With Cienciano in the Round of 16
Club Bolívar confirmed its strength in the Copa Sudamericana after once again defeating Palestino, this time with a 3-0 victory in Santiago, just like eight days ago in La Paz. With a 6-0 aggregate score, the Bolivian side left no room for doubt and secured a place in the tournament’s Round of 16, where they will face Cienciano of Peru.
Display of efficiency and control
From the very beginning, Bolívar showed their intention to take control of the match. Colombian midfielder Daniel Cataño, who had already scored in the first leg, opened the scoring in the 24th minute after pouncing on a loose ball in the box. Just four minutes later, defender José Sagredo doubled the lead with a precise header from a corner, once again assisted by Cataño.

The two-goal advantage hit Palestino hard, and they couldn’t find answers against a well-organized and clinical visiting side. Despite dominating possession, the Chilean team lacked depth and clarity in the final third. Neither Junior Marabel, Ronnie Fernández, nor Ariel Martínez could break the Bolivian defense, which was well guarded by goalkeeper Carlos Lampe, who had a solid performance.
In the second half, Palestino tried to push forward with more urgency, but most of their attacks lacked effectiveness. Bolívar, on the other hand, relied on counterattacks and sealed the match with a third goal scored by Uruguayan striker Martín Cauteruccio, who finished with his left foot after a second assist from Cataño.
With this victory, coach Flavio Robatto's side not only reaffirmed their good form but also sent a clear message that they are serious contenders for the continental title.
Next challenge: Cienciano
The sky-blue team now knows its next opponent: the historic Cienciano from Cusco. The first leg will be played on August 13 in La Paz, while the return leg is scheduled for August 20 in Peru. Fans are starting to believe, and the dream of lifting the Copa Sudamericana is becoming more tangible for Bolívar.
