For a large part of Boca Juniors' clash against Recoleta in their opening Copa Sudamericana match last week, matters were looking bleak for the Argentine giants.

The home team were 1-0 down to their Paraguayan opponents in the first leg at La Bombonera until the 49th minute before Boca were finally able to respond with three second-half strikes.

That 3-1 win puts Boca Juniors in pole position for Tuesday's second leg in Asuncion. However, there is still work to be done, especially with key players set to miss the match through injury: Leandro Paredes, Marco Pellegrino, and Leandro Lozano.

History Is on Boca Juniors' Side

History is at least in Boca's favor on Tuesday, with the Argentine side progressing in 22 of its last 24 CONMEBOL tournament ties after winning the first leg at home.

That record gives Boca Juniors another reason for confidence as they look to protect their two-goal advantage in Paraguay and secure a place among the final eight teams in the competition.

However, should Boca prevail and reach the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana, the team would move one step closer to a potentially massive clash with River Plate in the semifinals, as both Argentine giants are on the same side of the bracket.

Boca Looks to Finish the Job in Asuncion

Despite holding the advantage, Boca Juniors cannot afford to take Recoleta lightly. The Paraguayan side showed in the opening leg that it can cause problems and will now have home-field advantage as it attempts to overturn the deficit.

For Boca, the objective is simple: manage the advantage, overcome the absence of several important players and book a place in the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals.
