Millonarios Eliminate Atlético Nacional in Thriller With Rodrigo Contreras Brace
One match. Two historic rivals. A continental ticket on the line in Medellín.
An exceptional performance from Argentine Rodrigo Contreras led Millonarios to a 1-3 victory over Atlético Nacional this Wednesday in the single-match qualifying round of the Copa Sudamericana, securing their place in the tournament’s group stage.
The 30-year-old striker scored a brace and won a penalty that his teammate Leonardo Castro converted into a goal, while the hosts pulled one back through winger Nicolás Rodríguez at a packed Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín.
The match was very open and played largely inside the penalty areas, where both teams began creating chances that turned goalkeepers David Ospina, for the home side, and Diego Novoa, for the visitors, into standout performers.
