Ancelotti Puts Mbappé on the Same Level as Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti avoided directly comparing Kylian Mbappé to Cristiano Ronaldo but admitted the French striker has the potential to reach similar goal-scoring records and become a club legend.
"It's hard to compare different players and say Mbappé will achieve what Cristiano Ronaldo did at Real Madrid. He has the ability to do it, and that means he can become a club legend just like Cristiano," Ancelotti said in a press conference.
The Copa del Rey Challenge
Ancelotti is motivated by the chance to reach his third Copa del Rey final, a competition he has won both times he made it to the decisive match. With Real Madrid holding a one-goal lead over Real Sociedad in the semifinal ahead of the return leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, he emphasized the importance of the tournament.
"I'm motivated because we're so close to a final. For the players and the club, it's a big achievement. We have a slight advantage and the support of our fans, which gives us even more energy," he said. The Italian coach confirmed that Andriy Lunin will continue as the starting goalkeeper due to Thibaut Courtois' injury and hinted that David Alaba and Endrick might get some minutes in the match.
Defending Real Madrid's Playing Style
With ongoing comparisons between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Ancelotti defended his team's identity while acknowledging their rival’s strong form. "Barcelona plays beautiful and intense football, while Real Madrid has a different style but with a lot of quality. I love how we play, and I like how Barcelona plays too. They're just different approaches, and every team adapts to its players," he explained.
Ancelotti also admitted that defensive injuries have impacted his team’s solidity this season, but they have compensated with a stronger attack. "We've been less solid at the back compared to last year, but more effective in attack. The injuries in defense have cost us a bit of stability," he admitted.
Finally, when asked about the refereeing controversy in the recent derby against Leganés, Ancelotti maintained his stance and pointed out that his team has also suffered from questionable decisions. "I understand Leganés complaining about a gray area call, just like we have in the past. I have nothing more to add," he concluded.
