Ancelotti Rules Out Mbappé and Bellingham
The Real Madrid coach explained the reasons why neither the Frenchman nor the Englishman will be available against Leganés in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal clash against Leganés that neither Jude Bellingham nor Kylian Mbappé will be available due to hematomas.
For Mbappé, the injury is a calf hematoma, sustained after a challenge from Espanyol’s Carlos Romero, which was only punished with a yellow card. This controversial decision was one of the key reasons behind Real Madrid’s official complaint to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), questioning the refereeing and VAR decisions in their LaLiga match against Espanyol.
In a formal statement, Real Madrid addressed RFEF president Rafael Louzán and the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), demanding explanations over what they called a "scandalous refereeing performance."
"Mbappé started training today after an extra recovery day. He has a calf hematoma and won’t be available for tomorrow’s match," Ancelotti explained.
Bellingham will also be absent, but Vinícius Jr.—despite missing Tuesday’s training—will be available.
"Bellingham has a hematoma from a knock and cannot train, so he won’t be available tomorrow. Vinícius was given an extra recovery day, but he will play," Ancelotti confirmed.
