Flick and Ancelotti Reflect on The Epic Copa del Rey Final
The Copa del Rey final between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid was filled with emotions, especially after the comeback from the Catalan side, who won the title in extra time 3-2, thanks to a stunning goal from Jules Koundé in the 116th minute. After the final whistle, both Hansi Flick, coach of Barcelona, and Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid, shared their thoughts on a match that will go down in history.
Hansi Flick: "I am very proud of my team"
Hansi Flick, when interviewed by RTVE, did not hide his pride in his team's effort. Despite being 1-2 down against Real Madrid in the second half, Flick praised the players' mental strength, as they refused to give up. "It was difficult after Real Madrid's goal. But we managed to come back, we had our chances, and we won. The players fought until the end for this club," said the German coach.
Flick also highlighted the unique atmosphere of a classic, which, as he mentioned, is always special: "A final is always emotional, and even more so if it's a classic. The energy in the stadium is incredible, and that’s why I asked the players to enjoy the match and give everything on the pitch. I am very happy with their performance," he added.
The goal by Koundé in the 116th minute not only secured the title for Barcelona but also marked the culmination of a great comeback that solidified the character of this team coached by Flick.
Ancelotti: "We were very close, but in the end, it wasn’t meant to be"
On the other hand, Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid, also shared his thoughts on the match. Despite the defeat, the Italian made it clear that his team gave everything to win the trophy. "We were very close, we really tried until the end. The second half was very good for us. The match was very balanced," said Ancelotti in his interview with RTVE.
The Real Madrid coach highlighted the performance of several of his players, such as Luka Modric and Arda Güler, who were key in the team's reaction during the second half. "We did things well, but we conceded a somewhat strange goal, from behind, when we were a bit disorganized. These things can happen in a match against Barcelona," he added.
The loss in the Copa del Rey final leaves Real Madrid with a bitter taste, although Ancelotti remained positive about his players' overall performance, especially during the second half of the match.
A classic that leaves its mark
With this victory, FC Barcelona takes home their latest Copa del Rey title in a final that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last minute. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will have to digest a painful loss, although it clearly shows that their team remains competitive.
