Barcelona’s Plan With the Tough Losses of Raphinha and Marcus Rashford
Hansi Flick Faces Problem: Marcus Rashford and Raphinha Out Against Atlético Madrid
Hansi Flick and his coaching staff are facing a major problem ahead of Thursday’s match against Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey Mapfre semifinals. Two of the team’s most important forwards, Marcus Rashford and Raphinha, will be absent due to physical issues, forcing the German coach to look for alternatives on the left wing, according to Mundo Deportivo
Fortunately, these absences are expected to be short-term. Both players are anticipated to be available for Monday’s match against Girona at Montilivi, as neither injury is long-term.
Raphinha is dealing with muscle overload and, after previous injury episodes caused by overexertion, is being cautious to avoid aggravating the issue. With four additional days of rest, he is expected to be included in the squad on Monday. Rashford, on the other hand, has a bruise on his left knee, but with physiotherapy, the pain should subside in time to join the team against Girona.
At Barcelona, the approach is to not risk players unnecessarily, though they also recognize that the Girona match is crucial, as the opponent is looking to distance itself from the relegation zone. Therefore, the more players available to Flick, the better, even if they are not starters. Even with limited minutes, the threat posed by Rashford and Raphinha to any opponent is enormous.
