Why Isn’t Raphinha Playing Against Atlético Madrid in the Copa Del Rey?
A Major Absence for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona
FC Barcelona will be without Raphinha for the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals against Atlético Madrid, after the Brazilian forward did not take part in team training two days before the match.
The Barça winger has been dealing with physical discomfort since the last LaLiga match against Elche, in which he had to be substituted at halftime. Since then, he has also missed games against Albacete and Mallorca, confirming that his recovery requires caution.
According to the club’s medical report, Raphinha is suffering from an overload in the adductor of his right leg, an issue that coach Hansi Flick prefers to handle carefully to avoid a relapse. As a result, the decision has been made not to risk the player in such a demanding match.
In addition to the Brazilian, the coaching staff is also closely monitoring Frenkie de Jong, who is not at full fitness. However, the Dutch midfielder did take part in Tuesday’s training session, so his availability against Atlético Madrid has not been ruled out.
