He Failed at Real Madrid... but Has Left PSG and Barcelona Alone in the Race for the Treble
Luka Jovic redeemed himself with Milan by scoring a brace that knocked Inter Milan out of the Coppa Italia final
In the summer of 2019, Real Madrid made Luka Jovic the seventh most expensive signing in its history (now ninth after the arrivals of Bellingham and Tchouaméni) by spending over 60 million euros on a Eintracht Frankfurt player who had impressed all of Europe with a great Europa League campaign. The truth is, he never really succeeded at Real Madrid. However, last night he redeemed himself with Milan... leaving PSG and Barcelona alone in the race for the treble.

Luka Jovic: from discard to scorer with Milan
Luka Jovic's story is, without a doubt, one of the biggest redemption arcs of this season. He started for Milan in the first Serie A matchday due to a lack of available players. But after failing to be transferred in the summer window, he wasn’t registered for the Champions League, was sidelined from the squad’s dynamics… and played his last game of 2024 in September.
During the winter transfer window, Milan again tried to move him. However, even starting as the fourth striker in the squad behind Santi Giménez, Tammy Abraham, and even the very young Francesco Camarda, Luka Jovic stayed on the team, fully aware that when the opportunity came, he would be ready to deliver. He scored his first goal of the season against Napoli, salvaged a draw against Fiorentina, and since then, he’s earned a starting spot in recent weeks.
Jovic gave Barcelona clues on how to beat Inter Milan
Last night, Milan had to eliminate Inter Milan to reach the Coppa Italia final if they wanted to keep their hopes of playing in European competition next season alive… and Luka Jovic delivered again, scoring a brace with his only two shots, crushing Inter Milan’s dream of reclaiming the treble they won in 2010 under José Mourinho.
“Jović has been working really well over the past three or four weeks, at full intensity. He’s also lost a couple of kilos, which was important. He gives us exactly what we needed for this game. He doesn’t give defenders reference points and connects really well with the midfielders,” said Sérgio Conceiçao after the match, praising the performance of Luka Jovic, who last night gave Barcelona some key insights on how to hurt this Inter Milan.
