Conceicao always confident Milan would overcome Inter
AC Milan remain on course for Coppa Italia success in an otherwise disappointing campaign after beating Inter in the semi-finals.
Sergio Conceicao says he was always confident his AC Milan side would overcome Inter to reach the Coppa Italia final.
Milan beat fierce rivals Inter 3-0 at San Siro on Wednesday to advance 4-1 on aggregate after the first leg had finished 1-1.
The Rossoneri have endured a disappointing Serie A campaign as they sit down in ninth, 20 points behind Inter and Napoli.
Despite losing 1-0 at home to Atalanta at the weekend, Conceicao had faith his side would get the job done against Inter.
"I've had the feeling since the game against Atalanta," the Portuguese told Sport Mediaset
"The small details are important. I liked the attitude and the tightness of the team in defence and attack.
"The team has quality, but also humility and a desire to win every game."
Luka Jovic headed in a cross nine minutes before half-time to give Milan the lead and he doubled his personal tally early in the second period.
Tijjani Reijnders added a late third to help set up a final with either Bologna or Empoli, with Milan seeking their first Coppa crown since 2003.
Jovic now has four goals in his past five matches, having previously failed to net for Milan this season
"He's been working really well for the last three or four weeks. He's also lost a bit of weight," Conceicao said.
"He brings us something that we wanted for this game. He doesn't give anything away to the central defenders; we wanted to have that."
Milan will play two finals in a single season for the first time since 2007-08, having beaten Inter 3-1 in the Supercoppa Italiana in January.
It is just the third time Milan have won three derbies against Inter in a single season in their history, previously doing so in 1971-72 and 2004-05.
"Our feet are on the ground, we haven't won anything yet," Conceicao added.
"We have to play a final and make a difference at the end of the league to help our image. We have more quality than what we have shown."
