Robin Van Persie to Coach Feyenoord
His arrival comes after the club reached an agreement with Heerenveen, where Van Persie was coaching and had the team in ninth place in the Eredivisie with 27 points, 16 fewer than Feyenoord, with a record of seven wins, six draws, and ten losses.
Feyenoord of Rotterdam, which has qualified for the Champions League Round of 16, announced that former Dutch striker Robin Van Persie, 41, will be its new head coach after signing a contract until June 2027.
A Return with History
This appointment marks Van Persie’s return to the club where he began his coaching career, leading the U-18 squad and competing in the Youth League, where he reached the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Bayern Munich.
As a player, he had two spells with Feyenoord—his first at the beginning of his career and his last before retiring—after stints with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Fenerbahce. During his time with Feyenoord, he won the UEFA Cup in 2002, as well as the Dutch Cup and Super Cup in 2018.
Motivated for the Challenge
"Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is. I’m excited to work with the team, play at De Kuip with the support of our fans, and achieve great things together," said Van Persie, who will take over the position left by Danish coach Brian Priske and, temporarily, by Pascal Bosschaart, who will return to his role with the U-21 squad.
Club CEO Dennis te Kloese also expressed his enthusiasm: "We are thrilled to appoint a true club icon like Robin Van Persie as our new head coach. He knows the club inside and out and understands what it takes to get results."
"With his vast international experience, Robin can help the players continue developing. His football vision aligns perfectly with what we want at Feyenoord—an attacking and dynamic style, combined with bravery, intensity, and fighting spirit," he added. In his new role, he will be assisted by experienced coach René Hake.
