Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Crystal Palace: Devenny shines in FA Cup win
Crystal Palace eased into the fifth round of the FA Cup, with Justin Devenny impressing in the Eagles' 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.
Crystal Palace set up a meeting with Championship side Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round after beating Doncaster Rovers 2-0 at the Eco-Power Stadium on Tuesday.
Daniel Munoz and Justin Devenny scored either side of half-time to ensure the Eagles' progression in a game that threatened to cause an upset for Oliver Glasner's side.
Though the visitors dominated possession in the opening exchanges, it would be Doncaster who registered the first effort on target, with Ethan Ennis testing Matt Turner.
But Palace edged ahead in the 31st minute when Daichi Kamada's clever free-kick saw Jean-Philippe Mateta hit the post, with Munoz following up to finish on the rebound.
Doncaster, however, started the second-half strongly, with Luke Molyneux allowed space to cut inside from the right-hand side but firing his effort wide of the mark.
And just as the League Two side had played their win into the contest, Palace hit them with a sucker punch on the break with a real moment of quality from Devenny.
The Northern Irishman raced on to Will Hughes's deft pass in behind the Doncaster defence before lofting the ball over Teddy Sharman-Lowe 10 minutes after the interval.
Grant McCann's side continued to push for a goal, but Molyneux's curled effort cleared the crossbar before Turner got down low to save Owen Bailey's close-range effort late on.
Data Debrief: Devenny helps Eagles soar into fifth round
Palace are through to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2021-22, with their progression sealed by an inspired display from promising talent Devenny.
Devenny ended the contest having registered a team-high expected goals (xG) total of 1.03, while he also recorded the joint-most shots (three, level with Mateta) for Palace.
And at 21 years and 122 days old, Devenny became the youngest player to score for Palace in the FA Cup since Michael Olise (20yrs 55d) against Hartlepool United in February 2022.
But Glasner's side were made to work for their win. Doncaster had 15 shots in the game, their most in an FA Cup encounter without scoring since their 2-0 defeat to the Eagles in the fifth round in February 2019.
