Franco Colapinto Gifts His Helmet to Messi as a Good Luck Charm for the Club World Cup
It was a weekend full of action for two of Argentina most prominent athletes. On Saturday, Lionel Messi made his debut with Inter Miami in the Club World Cup being held in the United States, while Franco Colapinto took to the track in Montreal to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix of Formula 1 with his Alpine team.

A Gesture of Admiration
Beyond the results on the field and track, a moment that went viral on social media took place on Monday. Messi was surprised with a meaningful gift from Colapinto, who gave him one of the helmets he used last season in Formula 2 a token of admiration and a good luck charm for the tournament.
In a photo shared by Colapinto on his Instagram account, the Inter Miami captain can be seen holding the helmet with a smile. On the side of the helmet, the Argentine driver from Pilar wrote a special message:
“Thank you for so much joy and for all the lessons. All the best.”
Mutual Support That Goes Back
This isn’t the first time these two athletes have exchanged gestures of support. Earlier in 2024, Messi sent Colapinto a signed training shirt from the Argentine national team. The gift came just before the young driver secured his first Formula 2 victory.
At the time, Colapinto posted a video on social media saying:
“I can’t believe it thank you so much. As you can see, it brought me a lot of luck. It has the signature of the best in the world. I’m going to frame this shirt. I’m super happy and thankful to you, Leo.”
Whenever he gets the chance, Colapinto praises the figure of Argentina World Cup winning captai

A Tough Weekend for Both
Sportingly, it wasn’t an ideal weekend for either star. Messi Inter Miami failed to secure a win in their Club World Cup opener against Al Ahly of Egypt. Despite several attempts, the No. 10 couldn’t find the back of the net, and the match ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, Colapinto had a promising Saturday but couldn’t maintain momentum during Sunday race. He finished 13th in the tenth round of the 2025 Formula 1 calendar, held at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal.
Two Icons, One Flag
What clear is that the admiration between these two Argentine stars is mutual. Both are proudly representing their country on the global sports stage. It’s hoped that during the upcoming United States Grand Prix, the two can finally meet in person.
