River Plate Gears Up for Club World Cup Debut
River Plate is about to land in Seattle, the city where the team will be based ahead of their 2025 Club World Cup debut against Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan. Amid the buzz surrounding Franco Mastantuono's transfer to Real Madrid, Los Millonarios must stay focused and prepare for their opening match next Tuesday.

With Lautaro Rivero, who arrives from Central Córdoba (Argentina), as the only new addition from the first half of the year, and the inclusion of three youth players, the squad will stay at the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse, the Seattle Sounders' training facility. There, training sessions are expected to be open to the media, and Marcelo Gallardo will likely speak to the press.
Urawa Red Diamonds, currently third in the J-League, arrive with inconsistent form, having won just two of their last seven matches. Key players include Ryoma Watanabe, the team’s top scorer; Matheus Savio (formerly of Flamengo); Samuel Gustafson, who played for several Italian clubs; and Danilo Boza, a standout in the Brazilian league.
