A New Ballon d'Or Battle: Estêvão Willian Sends a Warning to Lamine Yamal
World football is witnessing the rise of a new generation of prodigies set to shake up the sport in the coming years. Among them, Estêvão Willian, the young Brazilian star from Palmeiras and future Chelsea player, is not only preparing to make the leap to European football but has also sent a clear message to his potential rivals in the Ballon d'Or race—especially to Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal.
Estêvão Willian Sets His Sights High: “I Hope to Compete for the Ballon d'Or”
At just 18, Estêvão Willian has shone brightly this season for Palmeiras, scoring 13 goals and providing 9 assists across all competitions. His talent quickly caught the eye of Europe’s elite, and he eventually signed with Chelsea in a deal worth €34 million, plus another €23 million in performance-based bonuses. This summer, after the Club World Cup, he’ll move to London aiming to prove he's built for the highest level of competition.

In an interview with As, the Brazilian made his ambitions clear: he doesn't just want to make it in the Premier League—he dreams of battling for football’s top individual honor alongside Lamine Yamal and Franco Mastantuono. “I sincerely hope we can compete for the Ballon d'Or. We’re all from the same generation, and it would be incredible and very exciting to find ourselves in that situation,” he said confidently.
Admiration and Rivalry: Estêvão Praises Yamal and Mastantuono
Though he fired a competitive warning, Estêvão also showed respect and admiration for his future rivals. He highlighted the level of young Spanish star Lamine Yamal, whom he has followed closely in the Champions League. “He’s a fantastic kid, a great player who had an amazing season. I’ve supported him a lot, especially alongside Raphinha,” he admitted.
He also praised Franco Mastantuono, the recent Real Madrid signing and another standout talent emerging from South America. “He’s also an excellent player who is improving a lot. I’ve been following his matches since he played in South America, and he has incredible potential,” he added.
The Future Begins at the Club World Cup
Next up for Estêvão Willian is the chance to make his first big impression with Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will face Palmeiras in the quarterfinals. It’s his first major test on U.S. soil and a launchpad for what could be a monumental career. In this emerging battle for global football supremacy, the young Brazilian has already made it clear: his goal is ultimate glory, and neither Lamine Yamal nor Franco Mastantuono will be easy rivals.
The next generation is ready to take the stage, and the race for the Ballon d'Or is already taking shape. Who will come out on top? Time will tell, but the expectations have never been higher.
