Donald Trump Forgets Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and Puts Pele as the Best of All Time
The Club World Cup Final took place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, and had an unexpected guest in the stands: U.S. President Donald Trump. During an interview with DAZN, Trump shared his opinion on who he believes is the greatest footballer in history.
“Call me old-fashioned, but for me it’s Pelé”
Before taking his seat next to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump gave a brief interview in which he revealed his admiration for the Brazilian legend.
“Many years ago, when I was young, there was a player named Pelé who played for a team called The Cosmos. I don’t want to reveal my age, but it was a long time ago. I went to see him play, and he was fantastic. So I may sound old-fashioned, but I’d say Pelé was more than excellent,” said Trump.
Trump joins the trophy ceremony
Trump didn’t just watch the match he also took part in the award ceremony, accompanying Gianni Infantino during the medal and trophy presentation. The former president even posed for the champions’ photo, standing next to the Chelsea squad as Reece James lifted the trophy.
Chelsea, dominant champions
Chelsea were crowned Club World Cup champions after a commanding 3–0 victory over PSG. With a brace from Cole Palmer and a third goal by Joao Pedro (also assisted by Palmer), the Blues made history by becoming the first team ever to win every tournament they've competed in, and the first world champions under the tournament’s new format.
Do you agree with Trump?
For Donald Trump, players from past generations had greater quality than today stars, due to the different conditions of the sport back then. But what about you do you agree with his statement, or do you have a different pick for the greatest footballer of all time?
