Is Haaland Recruiting a Rival for Manchester City? His Reaction to the Rumor Shocked Everyone
The unexpected triumph of Al Hilal over Manchester City at the Club World Cup not only shook the English side’s environment but also unleashed a wave of rumors. Among them, one stood out: Erling Haaland was allegedly trying to convince goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to join Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Haaland Might Be Trying to Bring This Player to City
It all started after the thrilling 4–3 extra-time loss to Al Hilal, which knocked City out of the tournament. In that match, Bounou—better known as Bono—was key, stopping several clear chances from Haaland, Savinho, and Rúben Dias, becoming the undisputed man of the match.
Following the game, a brief conversation between Haaland and Bono sparked speculation online. A popular account posted an image of the two along with the alleged quote “Come to City,” implying the Norwegian was trying to lure the Moroccan keeper to the Citizens. However, Haaland quickly shut down the rumors with a firm “Not true” response and a big red X on his Instagram story.
Despite the denial, the speculation doesn’t seem far-fetched, especially given the current uncertainty around Ederson. The 30-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper has been under fire for recent mistakes, including a costly error against Juventus and a decisive one versus Real Madrid in the Champions League. His name has been linked to a potential move to the Saudi league, though he insists he wants to stay with City.
Meanwhile, Bono boasts an impressive résumé: two Europa League titles with Sevilla and a starring role in Morocco’s historic 2022 World Cup run. His proven experience makes him a solid candidate if City decides to reinforce its goalkeeping department.
City’s early exit from the Club World Cup, combined with Bono’s standout performance, could very well prompt changes at the back. Could we see Bono defending the Etihad Stadium goalposts in the near future? For now, Haaland says no… but the transfer market is full of surprises.
