Xabi Alonso’s Harsh Warning About Kylian Mbappé and His Physical Condition in the Club World Cup
The French star is back… but the best is yet to come. His coach knows it—and he’s warning the world: he is just getting started.
Kylian Mbappé finally made his Club World Cup debut, featuring in the last 22 minutes of Real Madrid’s 1–0 win over Juventus. After battling acute gastroenteritis and missing the group stage, the Frenchman returned to action with glimpses of his trademark pace and flair.
“Every day, he is getting better”
Madrid manager Xabi Alonso was full of praise: “From now until the quarterfinal, he’s going to be even better. I talk to him every day, ask him how he’s feeling—and I can see him growing stronger.” The link-up play with Vinícius Jr. hinted at the firepower still to come.
Dortmund up next
Madrid will now face Borussia Dortmund, who barely got past Monterrey. “I know Dortmund well,” Alonso said. “With Niko Kovać, they finished the season strongly. It will be a great challenge.”
A new era begins
Beyond Mbappé, Alonso emphasized the group’s mentality: “We’ve only been together a short time, but we’re already competing for big things. Defensive discipline and solidity have been essential.” The Xabi era has begun—and Mbappé looks ready to lead the charge.
