Deschamps Does Not Want to Talk About Zidane
Didier Deschamps is clear that his only focus should be the World Cup, and when asked about the possible next coach of Les Bleus, his response was firm.
In a press conference, the coach stated, “I’m not going to waste energy on this. What happens afterward is not my business.” These words come after the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, confirmed that he already knows the name of the next head coach, without directly mentioning Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane as the Potential Successor
Various reports suggest that Zidane would be in charge of leading the process toward Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup. Diallo had previously noted that not just anyone can take the national team’s bench, but someone with the support of the entire country—something Zidane clearly has guaranteed.
It has also been reported that negotiations are practically finalized and that everything is ready for the 1998 World Cup champion to take over the team. However, nothing has been made official yet in order not to disrupt a squad aiming for its third World Cup title.
For this reason, Deschamps is ignoring the speculation and keeping his attention on the present. Under his guidance, France won the 2018 World Cup and reached the 2022 final. Additionally, he took over at a challenging time and, as captain of the team that won the 1998 World Cup, always had the support of the fans.

His tenure is one of the most outstanding in recent French football history, comparable only to that of Aimé Jacquet, who led the team to the World Cup title at home. Deschamps is also the coach with the most matches in Les Bleus history, with 175 games, reflecting the magnitude of his legacy.
Once Zidane’s arrival is confirmed, France will surely celebrate and place high expectations on a coach who has already won everything at the club level with Real Madrid.
