Morocco Dreams of Hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup Final
While Morocco continues making history on the pitch at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it is also fighting an equally significant battle off the field: securing the right to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup Final.
According to recent reports, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, led by Fouzi Lekjaa, believes it has already secured the support of a majority within the FIFA Council to bring the tournament's final to Casablanca, rather than Spain, which had long been considered the favorite to stage the showpiece event.
The reports indicate that Morocco's campaign has gained momentum thanks to support from several African and Asian football associations, as well as influential political and sporting figures. However, FIFA has yet to make a final decision, meaning the race to host the World Cup final remains open.
A Historic Opportunity for African Football
If Casablanca is ultimately awarded the 2030 FIFA World Cup Final, it would represent a landmark moment for African football.
A FIFA World Cup final has never been played on African soil. Although South Africa successfully hosted the 2010 tournament, having Morocco stage the championship match would carry enormous symbolic value for a continent that has spent decades seeking greater prominence in world football.
The bid also coincides with the remarkable rise of Moroccan football.
In recent years, Morocco has evolved from being a surprise package into one of the world's emerging football powers. The Atlas Lions reached the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African nation ever to achieve that feat. Now, they have once again established themselves among the tournament's elite by reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, proving that their success was no coincidence.
A Project That Goes Beyond a Stadium
Morocco's case is not based solely on the construction of the future Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, a venue expected to become one of the largest football stadiums in the world, with a capacity of more than 110,000 spectators.
The country has invested billions of dollars in transportation, roads, airports, hotels, and sports infrastructure to present a World Cup project capable of competing with any nation.
Hosting the final would also provide an unprecedented economic and tourism boost for North Africa while further establishing Morocco as one of the continent's leading sporting destinations for decades to come.

Spain Refuses to Give Up
On the other side stands Spain, which believes iconic venues such as the Santiago Bernabéu or the future Spotify Camp Nou are the ideal settings to host the biggest match in world football.
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, has publicly stated that he cannot imagine the World Cup final being played anywhere other than Spain, expressing confidence that the country's organizational experience will be a decisive factor when FIFA makes its final decision.
The choice ultimately rests with FIFA, but the battle to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup Final has already begun.
Ironically, while Morocco continues writing one of the greatest chapters in its football history on the field during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it is simultaneously pursuing another ambitious dream: ensuring that, four years from now, the football world turns its attention to Casablanca for the biggest match in the sport.
