In an official statement, the sporting leadership of the national side —managed by Javier Aguirre— announced that on Saturday, March 28, Mexico will host Portugal at the Estadio Azteca. The schedule remains demanding. On Tuesday, March 31, the Tri will travel to Chicago to face Belgium at Soldier Field —currently ranked eighth in the world and featuring elite-level stars.

Following a difficult end to the year —with four draws and losses against Colombia (4–0) and Paraguay (2–1)— Aguirre will look for improved performances against rivals of the highest level.
