Ancelotti Avoids Controversy over Penalty Decision
Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid's coach, was reluctant to comment on the penalty awarded to Atlético de Madrid in their match against his team, when Aurélien Tchouaméni fouled Samu Lino. Despite the controversy surrounding the decision, the Italian coach made it clear that he did not want to get involved in debates and preferred to focus on his team's performance.
In a press conference, Ancelotti stated that "the referee was very close and saw very well what happened," making it clear that, in his opinion, the action was correctly judged. However, he refused to elaborate on the matter and avoided discussing refereeing decisions further.
The penalty was reviewed by VAR, leading to a call that sparked debate. Ancelotti acknowledged that while the referee's decision was final, "football people don't understand this" and questioned the consistency of refereeing in other matches, citing a penalty awarded to Athletic Club against Girona.
Focus on the match rather than the controversy
Despite the controversy, Ancelotti chose not to dwell on the refereeing decisions and instead focused on his team's performance. "I don’t want to get into a controversy that is already big enough," he said, emphasizing his preference to analyze the match rather than discuss the referee's influence.
Real Madrid remains focused on the league, aiming to stay in the title race while Ancelotti continues to fine-tune his squad, with their sights set on the upcoming fixtures.
