Ancelotti Confident About the End of Mbappé’s Goal Drought
Ancelotti also praised Mbappé’s work during the international break, highlighting the focus on defensive tactics.
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, highlighted the strong physical condition of Kylian Mbappé, who stayed in Madrid during the international break after not being called up by France. He expressed confidence that Mbappé will "break his goal drought" against Leganés on Sunday, which has lasted since October 19.
"Mbappé has improved his fitness, and hopefully tomorrow he can showcase all his talent, which is immense. Every great striker goes through a goal drought. But I see Mbappé motivated and happy to train, to bond with his teammates... The drought will end sooner or later, and I’m confident that tomorrow he’ll end his scoring slump. He has incredible quality, and eventually, he’ll show it," Ancelotti said in a press conference.
Ancelotti dismissed concerns about Mbappé’s mental health. "What a question! I don’t think so. I see him happy, enjoying his time here. It doesn’t seem to me that he’s been struggling with mental health issues, or at least he doesn’t show it. Speculating about that seems unfair," he remarked.
He also clarified that Mbappé has never requested to play as a left winger. "Kylian has never asked me to play in a specific position on the field. Everyone wants to be in the starting eleven, but both Vinícius and Mbappé don’t have fixed positions; they can switch roles depending on the match," he explained.
"He worked with us, and we concentrated on the defensive line because we had Raúl Asencio, Mendy... we tested right-backs. Mbappé doesn’t need to work on his defensive skills. And I can’t teach him how to attack; if anything, he should be teaching us," he concluded.
