Ancelotti Issues Warning Ahead of LaLiga's Most Decisive Stretch
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti made it clear on Friday that the LaLiga title race is far from over, despite Barcelona extending their lead to three points after a 3-0 win over Osasuna in their rescheduled Matchday 27 fixture. Speaking at a press conference, the Italian coach acknowledged that the most demanding part of the season is just beginning and that “each game brings more responsibility.”
“LaLiga isn’t decided. Barcelona have an advantage, but we still have the Clásico and many games left. Hopefully, we can play 17 more matches—that would mean we’re still fighting for every title,” Ancelotti said.
Responds to Flick and talks team fitness
Ancelotti also addressed recent comments from Hansi Flick, the Barcelona boss, who stated: “We are Barça, not Real Madrid, and I’m very proud of them,” referring to the intense fixture congestion.
“I understand his frustration. It’s unusual to play a match without all your players available. I agree—Real Madrid is not Barcelona,” Ancelotti replied with a touch of irony.
On the physical condition of his squad following the international break, Ancelotti sounded optimistic. He confirmed that Thibaut Courtois picked up a minor muscular issue and will miss the upcoming match against Leganés, but the rest of the squad is in good shape.
“The team is doing well. The players had time to recover, except those who traveled to South America. Tomorrow marks the start of a crucial stretch, and we must be ready.”
Rotations, UEFA probe, and injury updates
Ancelotti revealed that he plans to rotate the squad against Leganés, and that Vinícius Jr. is physically ready to play if needed.
Regarding UEFA’s ongoing investigation into the team’s post-match celebrations after eliminating Atlético Madrid from the Champions League, Ancelotti remained calm:
“We trust UEFA. We believe everything was done properly.”
Finally, the coach provided a positive update on the injury front, noting that Ferland Mendy and Dani Ceballos are expected to be available for the Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Arsenal on April 8.
