Antony Breaks his Silence and Slams Manchester United after Thriving at Betis
Brazilian winger Antony has rediscovered his best form since joining Real Betis in the last winter transfer window. After a difficult spell at Manchester United, where he struggled to establish himself, the player has found a fresh start in Spain and hasn’t hesitated to speak about his challenging time in England.

The winter transfer window was eventful for Manchester United. While the Red Devils strengthened their squad with the signing of Patrick Dorgu, they also took the opportunity to part ways with players who were not in the club’s plans. Marcus Rashford moved on loan to Aston Villa, while Antony packed his bags for Spain, joining Real Betis in search of more playing time and consistency.
Since arriving in Seville, Antony has shined in La Liga, scoring three goals and providing one assist in his first four matches under Manuel Pellegrini. “When Betis came for me, I felt a certainty in my heart and was very calm. The atmosphere here is incredible; it feels like a family,” the former Ajax player said on the club’s official program, Todo al verde.
A fresh start at Betis
Far from the pressure of Manchester, the Brazilian has regained his confidence and is enjoying his football in Spain. “When you are happy and work with joy, things happen naturally. Yes, I’m very happy to have been named MVP in three La Liga matches, but the most important thing is the team, that we win, and that everyone is happy,” he said enthusiastically.
However, Antony hasn’t forgotten how tough his time in England was. “Yes, I didn’t play much, but I worked hard every day. I needed to feel good about myself. I played very little at United, but I am grateful for everything, even to the coach, who always spoke to me. I went through tough times, but I also had good moments,” recalled the Brazilian, who won the Carabao Cup (2023) and the FA Cup (2024) during his time at Old Trafford.
Despite adding silverware to his career, Antony now prioritizes his happiness. “Here, I have found myself again; I feel at home. It’s like in Brazil—the sun, the city… I wake up smiling, and I go to bed smiling, and that’s the most important thing for me,” he concluded. What once seemed like a setback in his career has now turned into a new beginning with Real Betis.
