Atlético Madrid Announces Departure of Sporting Director
Atlético Madrid and Andrea Berta, who served as the club's sporting director, have reached an agreement to terminate his contract. This brings to an end more than a decade of collaboration marked by significant sporting success and the club’s growth, as announced by the team in an official statement on Sunday.
"We want to thank Andrea Berta for his effort, commitment, and dedication over these 11 years. We wish him the best in his new professional chapter," emphasized Atlético Madrid on its official website.
A career filled with accomplishments
Andrea Berta joined the Madrid-based club in 2013 from Genoa, initially working in the International Scouting Department within the sporting structure. He later became technical director and, in 2017, was named sporting director, succeeding José Luis Pérez Caminero and becoming the primary decision-maker in professional football operations.
During his tenure, Atlético Madrid celebrated several major achievements: one Copa del Rey in 2013, two La Liga titles in the 2013-14 and 2020-21 seasons, a Spanish Super Cup in 2014, a Europa League title in 2017-18, and a UEFA Super Cup in 2018.
A legacy that shaped an era
The departure of Andrea Berta marks the end of an era that significantly contributed to Atlético Madrid’s recent success. His leadership in sports planning was instrumental in solidifying the club as one of the most competitive teams in Europe.
Now, the Atlético Madrid organization faces the challenge of finding his successor, who will be tasked with maintaining and strengthening the club’s sporting structure. Meanwhile, Andrea Berta is set to embark on a new chapter in his professional career.
