Barbastro player Proposes to His Girlfriend after Barcelona Match
Football wasn't the only emotion on display this Saturday at the Municipal Stadium of Barbastro. After his team's loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey round of 16, Israel García, Barbastro's 26-year-old midfielder, experienced an unforgettable personal moment. The player surprised his girlfriend by proposing to her on the field, in a heartfelt gesture after the final whistle.
Barcelona, with a dominant 0-4 victory, eliminated Barbastro, a team from the Segunda RFEF, from the competition. Although the locals dreamed of another cup upset, the Catalan team showed their superiority, controlling the match from the outset. Barbastro, with a defensive setup, couldn’t withstand the offensive power of Barça, who asserted their dominance with goals from Eric García, Robert Lewandowski (twice), and Pablo Torre.
The local team, known for its cup surprises, couldn't replicate last year's upset over Almería, nor the previous round's victory over Espanyol. Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, asserted their class and made it clear there would be no surprise this time. Despite the loss, Barbastro held firm in the early stages of the match, but the quality of the opponent proved too much.
The day also held special significance for Barcelona, who celebrated their 100th victory under Flick. Additionally, Ronald Araujo's return to the field after a long injury was another highlight. The Uruguayan defender, who had been sidelined for six months due to a biceps femoris tendon rupture, played the entire match and contributed to the team’s solid defensive performance.
Despite the heavy defeat, Israel García took the moment to propose to his girlfriend in a romantic gesture that briefly overshadowed the game’s result. After the match, the midfielder invited his partner onto the field, knelt down, and presented her with a ring, creating an emotional scene that became the true highlight of the day for the player, who, beyond the loss, celebrated a personal victory.
