Barcelona finishes the first quarter of the year unbeaten
Barcelona has completed the first quarter of the year without a single defeat, wrapping it up with a dominant 4-1 win over Girona on Saturday. With 17 wins and three draws, the Blaugrana head into the final stretch of the season with plenty of reasons for optimism.
This is the club’s best unbeaten streak since the 2018-2019 season, when Ernesto Valverde’s Barça went 23 matches without losing between January and May. That run also started with a win over Girona (0-2) and ended with defeats to Celta de Vigo (2-0) and Liverpool (4-0) in the Champions League semifinals.
LaLiga leaders with European ambitions
Since their last loss against Atlético de Madrid (1-2) on December 21, 2024, Hansi Flick’s squad hasn’t been beaten. They kicked off 2025 with a 0-4 win over Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, followed by key victories against Athletic Club (0-2) and Real Madrid (2-5) in Saudi Arabia to claim the Spanish Super Cup.
Now, Barcelona sits atop LaLiga EA Sports, three points ahead of Real Madrid with nine matches to go. They are also still in the hunt for the Champions League, where they’ll face Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals, and the Copa del Rey, with the second leg of the semifinals against Atlético de Madrid set for this Wednesday at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, following a thrilling 4-4 draw in the first leg at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
With this form, Barça isn’t just the only team across Europe’s top five leagues with more than eight games unbeaten, but they also head into the second quarter of the year with a serious shot at winning every trophy still up for grabs.
