Barcelona under Flick: a Machine Never before Seen in the History of LaLiga
Barcelona is the team in the history of La Liga with the most goals across all competitions after 45 matches played
At this point in the season, no team seems capable of facing the Barcelona of Hansi Flick. With hardly any time to recover after the victory against Osasuna, they went on to overwhelm Girona, using a fairly rotated starting lineup with one eye on the Copa del Rey semifinals against Atlético de Madrid, and still managed to set a record never before seen in the history of La Liga.

139 goals in 45 matches
It’s true that the 1-0 scoreline with which Barcelona went into halftime, thanks to an own goal by Krejci, gave the impression that it was too little... and Girona got back into the match right after the second half began. However, what would have raised doubts among fans at Montjuic a few seasons ago, only served as motivation for a Barcelona that, as soon as they stepped on the gas, gave no chances to Girona.
A brace from Lewandowski and a late goal from Ferran Torres sealed a victory that took Barcelona to 139 goals in the 45 matches they’ve played this season. A record never before seen in Spain. Not even in the times of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona aims to surpass its own record
“For me, the important thing was the three points. I’m happy with the match. The defense was very good, and the substitutions were very positive. Some players were tired and we didn’t put them on, we’re happy with the decision,” said Hansi Flick. “What I like is that my players always want more. The attitude and mentality are very good,” he added.
With an average of over 3 goals per match, Barcelona is on track to reach 176 goals in the 12 matches they have left to play this season. Therefore, if they manage to reach the Copa del Rey final and beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinals, it’s possible they could surpass their own record set in the 2011-12 season as the highest-scoring team in history in a single season, with a total of 190 goals.
