Cubarsí Renews with Barcelona until 2029
FC Barcelona has secured the future of one of its brightest prospects. The club announced on Thursday the contract renewal of Pau Cubarsí until June 30, 2029, reinforcing its commitment to the young Catalan center-back, who has proven to be a key player for the first team.
The player signed his new contract at the Spotify Camp Nou offices, accompanied by his agent and family. The event was also attended by club president Joan Laporta, vice president of the sports area Rafa Yuste, and football director Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’. This renewal follows his last extension in the summer of 2024, when, due to age restrictions, he could only sign until 2027. Now, after turning 18 on January 22, his contract has been extended for two more years.
A talent forged in La Masia
Cubarsí (Estanyol, Girona, 2007) joined Barcelona in 2018 from Girona and has progressed through all the club's youth ranks. He made his official first-team debut on January 18, 2024, in a Copa del Rey match against Unionistas de Salamanca (1-3). Since then, he has played 60 matches, 52 as a starter, showcasing maturity and defensive solidity beyond his years.
The young defender belongs to the 2007 generation, the same as Lamine Yamal. His composure on the ball and tactical awareness have drawn comparisons—albeit cautiously—to Gerard Piqué. Additionally, those who have watched him develop in the youth teams highlight his humility, reminiscent of legends like Andrés Iniesta and Carles Puyol.
Present and future of Barça
His emergence in the first team has also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team, where he has already played five matches, starting in two. He was also a key figure in the Olympic squad that won gold at the Paris Games last summer, solidifying himself as one of Spain’s most promising talents.
Cubarsí’s renewal adds to recent contract extensions for other key players, such as Ronald Araujo (2031), Gerard Martín (2028), Gavi (2030), and Pedri (2030), confirming FC Barcelona’s commitment to its next generation of stars.
