Espanyol Responds to Joan García Rumors: “There’s Nothing to Negotiate”
The speculation surrounding Joan García’s potential move to FC Barcelona continues to stir debate in Spanish football. However, Espanyol have made their position crystal clear: no talks, only a release clause. This was confirmed by Mao Ye, CEO of the club, during the annual supporters’ gathering in La Roca del Vallès.
€25 Million or Nothing
The Barça interest in the 23-year-old goalkeeper has been widely reported in recent weeks, but Espanyol isn’t budging.
“There’s a clause to be paid. There’s nothing to negotiate,” Mao Ye stated, referring to the €25 million buyout fee included in García’s contract.
He also noted that the figure may be subject to inflation adjustments, but emphasized that it won’t be renegotiated or lowered under any circumstances.
No Contact from Barcelona or Other Clubs
Despite all the noise, Espanyol insists there’s been no official approach—neither from Barcelona nor from Joan García himself, who remains under contract until June 2028.
“There’s been a lot of talk this week, but nothing has happened. We haven’t been contacted,” Mao Ye reiterated.
He also called for respect toward the player’s situation, adding that “every professional has the right to choose their path,” though the club’s stance remains unchanged.
A Move That Could Shake Up LaLiga
García is widely regarded as one of Spain’s top young goalkeeping prospects, and his potential transfer to Barça could ignite tensions in one of the country’s fiercest rivalries. For now, though, his future is tied to any club willing to activate his clause.
Espanyol’s message is loud and clear: Joan García is not up for negotiation.
