FC Barcelona: No More Winter Moves, But Eyes on Future Signings
Sources within the club assured 'SPORT' that there will be no further announcements regarding player arrivals or departures in the final hours before the market closes.
As the winter transfer window draws to a close, FC Barcelona has confirmed that no major movements are expected. The club had previously explored the possibility of signing an offensive player and offloading a central defender, as well as Ansu Fati. However, barring any surprises, coach Hansi Flick will continue with the current squad through the end of the season, with any significant decisions postponed until the summer, which is expected to be much busier.
Focus on Nico’s Potential Departure
In the last moments of the transfer window, Barcelona is closely monitoring the potential departure of Nico to Manchester City, with whom they maintain a 40% share of the transfer fee due to the partnership with Porto. Negotiations are ongoing, but this deal is unlikely to involve any new signings for the Catalan club at this point. The Barcelona board remains focused on settling key contracts and reinforcing the squad's long-term future.
Who Will Barcelona Target This Summer?
Although Hansi Flick had hoped for some offensive reinforcements, including a potential move for Marcus Rashford, who ultimately chose Aston Villa, the club couldn’t create enough salary space to finalize the deal. The opportunity was there, but Barcelona couldn’t make it work. With no immediate solutions available, Flick will now have to wait for the summer market to address these needs. The sporting direction remains confident that Barcelona can strengthen the squad significantly in the coming months.
As for current contract negotiations, the club is prioritizing securing renewals for key players. Deco has successfully convinced Araujo to stay, and both Pedri and Gavi have extended their contracts until 2030. Íñigo Martínez is also set for an official announcement regarding a one-year extension, while Lewandowski is expected to renew his contract in late February.
The club’s sporting team is now focused on handling future contracts for players like Frenkie de Jong, who will be negotiating his extension in the coming months. Additionally, Jules Koundé and Raphinha will enter talks about long-term contracts, with both players' current deals expiring in June 2027. Barcelona’s sporting team is optimistic about securing these renewals sooner rather than later, particularly in the case of the French defender.
While Flick has acknowledged the need for a new offensive addition, it seems likely that any major investments will be postponed until the summer. For now, Barcelona's attention turns to the next season and beyond.
