Griezmann Postpones his Move to MLS… and Sends Correa to Liga MX?
‘Relevo’ has confirmed that Atlético de Madrid expects to announce the contract extension of Antoine Griezmann through 2027
The United States will have to wait to enjoy Antoine Griezmann live, as he is reportedly postponing his decision to join MLS this coming summer. This was initially reported by ‘AS’ a few weeks ago… and has now been confirmed by ‘Relevo’. In fact, Atlético de Madrid is expected to announce his renewal through 2027. A decision that could have consequences for next season’s planning… and all eyes are on Ángel Correa as a potential casualty.

Griezmann will remain at Atlético de Madrid
Not long ago, Antoine Griezmann seemed closer to leaving than staying at Atlético de Madrid. In fact, his retirement from the French national team earlier this season seemed to signal that he was preparing to end his journey with Atlético de Madrid, after surpassing Leo Messi as the foreign player with the most appearances in LaLiga history — someone he was expected to follow into MLS.
With close friends like Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud already on the squad, it all seemed to point to a move to Los Angeles FC. However, despite a notable drop in performance, Atlético de Madrid expressed to Griezmann their desire for him to stay. A message Griezmann reportedly received positively — and even though he may take a pay cut, he was convinced to stay two more seasons at Atlético de Madrid, with the clear goal of winning his first major title.
Agreement between Correa and Tigres
That said, it’s becoming clear that Atlético de Madrid is gradually beginning a transition in its attacking lineup. Next season, Julián Álvarez is expected to fully take over from Griezmann, who would take on a more secondary role. This would open the door for a new striker to arrive, with Darwin Núñez (Liverpool) and Gyokeres (Sporting CP) among Atlético de Madrid’s top choices.
However, Griezmann’s new role puts Ángel Correa on the way out at Atlético de Madrid. A situation the player himself doesn’t seem to mind, as he has reportedly reached an agreement with Tigres to join Liga MX this coming summer, according to reports from ‘El Desmarque’. The only issue lies in Atlético de Madrid’s financial demands, as they still consider him a valuable asset — one that could help offset the cost of bringing in another forward.
