Iñigo Martínez Issues Warning on Lamine Yamal: "We Have to Help Him"
Barcelona's center-back spoke in an interview about the team's rising star, noting that he sees him as grounded but also issued a word of caution.
Barcelona defender Iñigo Martínez gave an interview to El Club del Deportista where he discussed the "boost of energy" brought by the arrival of Hansi Flick, and shared his thoughts on the impact of Lamine Yamal, whom he praised for having a good head on his shoulders but also issued a word of caution.
Martínez admitted that last season "wasn't easy at all" and that the arrival of German coach Hansi Flick to the Barça dressing room has provided "a real energy injection." He also confessed that he is currently in "one of the best moments" of his career.
"Last year was not easy, but this year I'm enjoying it to the fullest. I'm in one of the best moments of my career. When you feel the confidence of the coach and your teammates, everything flows better," he said.
Regarding this season, Martínez emphasized that the team is aiming to win some silverware. "We're showing that we're doing really well, and it's clear that we know how to compete against any opponent. Against Madrid, if you let your guard down even for a second, you pay for it," he highlighted.
With Iñigo on the pitch, Barcelona has won 22 consecutive La Liga matches. After nine matchdays, the Catalan side leads the competition, three points ahead of Real Madrid and seven points ahead of Atlético Madrid and Villarreal.
A Word of Caution on Lamine Yamal
"We all know the potential he has, but we need to take it step by step with him. We have to help him because it's easy to get off track in the world of football. He's a kid with a good head on his shoulders and knows what he wants, so we have full confidence in him," Martínez said during the interview with El Club del Deportista.
