Lamine Yamal Injury Update: Barcelona Forward to Miss 2024 with Ankle Issue
Bad news for Barcelona. Lamine Yamal bids farewell to 2024 after the club announced he has suffered an ankle injury.
Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal will be sidelined for three to four weeks due to a Grade 1 injury to the anterior intertibio-peroneal ligament in his right ankle, according to the club's medical staff.
Yamal sustained the injury during Barcelona's recent La Liga match against Leganés at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday, which ended in a 1-0 loss. The 16-year-old was fouled by Leganés midfielder Yvan Neyou in the 16th minute, and despite continuing to play until the 75th minute, he was substituted after showing signs of pain.
This marks the second ankle injury Yamal has suffered this season, after previously missing three weeks due to a syndesmosis injury sustained during the Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade on November 6.
Drama without Lamine
Without Yamal, Barcelona lost to Real Sociedad (1-0) and drew with Celta (2-2) in La Liga but secured a 3-0 victory over Brest in the Champions League. Yamal, a key player under Hansi Flick, has contributed 6 goals and 11 assists so far this season, ranking as the third-highest assist provider among players in Europe's top five leagues.
