Lamine Yamal Won’t Settle! He Wants to Dominate Europe with Barcelona
With FC Barcelona still competing in all three major tournaments this season, Lamine Yamal is determined to leave nothing behind. His ambition knows no bounds, and his goal is clear: to win every possible title with the club of his life.
The young forward has sent a strong message to all of Europe after Barcelona secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals by defeating Benfica in the round of 16 (1-0 and 3-1). For Lamine Yamal, the ultimate goal is to lift the prestigious trophy, but he won’t stop there. “For any Barça fan, the Champions League is the most special title, but our objective is the treble. If I had to choose, I’d go for the European Cup,” the 17-year-old told AS in an interview.
Moreover, the Spanish winger doesn’t hide the fact that a hypothetical final against Real Madrid would make the victory even sweeter. “Madrid and Barça are always in the fight for the Cup and the Champions League. If we reach the final, I don’t care who the opponent is, but if it’s Madrid, it will be even more special. It would be something unique, and we would enjoy it a lot,” said the Spain international, who shares the same ambition as his teammate Pedri.
"We are the favorites to win the Champions League"
Although the road to the final is still long and full of challenges, Barcelona will face Borussia Dortmund in the next round. However, Lamine Yamal has full confidence in his team and considers them the top contender for the title. “We are the favorites to win the Champions League. When the group stage ended, I said that Liverpool was the favorite because they finished first, but now that they’ve been eliminated, it’s us,” he told Sport in an interview.
The Blaugrana winger also emphasized that Hansi Flick’s squad fears no opponent, thanks to their “strong mentality” that allows them to compete at the highest level. Showing remarkable maturity for his age, Lamine Yamal is determined to learn from past mistakes to avoid repeating them. “We are a different team from last year when we lost to PSG (…) Now, we are a family,” concluded the Spanish international.
The young prodigy has also been called up by Luis de la Fuente for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against Netherlands, a trophy he also hopes to win. However, his main priority is clear: to shine with Barcelona and prove that he is ready to take Europe by storm.
