Le Normand’s Injury Diagnosis Confirmed After Head Trauma
The Atlético de Madrid center-back left the match against Espanyol with a head injury, but medical tests ruled out any serious damage.
Positive Update for Atlético de Madrid
Robin Le Normand, defender for Atlético de Madrid, caused concern after being forced off the pitch during Saturday’s match against Espanyol due to a head collision with Roberto Fernández. Fortunately for the rojiblancos, the club has confirmed that medical evaluations carried out in both Barcelona and Madrid have ruled out any serious injury.
The club’s statement described the incident as a lacerated wound to the head, noting that the substitution was primarily precautionary. “The player underwent tests both in Barcelona, immediately after the incident, and later in Madrid, with both examinations returning the same result. With serious injury ruled out and the player feeling well, his return to action will depend on the evolution of his symptoms,” the team said.
Atlético de Madrid will face Barcelona this Wednesday at the Metropolitano Stadium in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals.
A Cautious Approach After Previous Head Injury
The decision to replace Le Normand in the 28th minute was influenced by his recent medical history. The defender missed twelve matches earlier this season after suffering a head injury with a subdural hematoma in the derby against Real Madrid on September 29. That incident sidelined him for over two months.
Signed last summer from Real Sociedad, Le Normand has played 28 matches this season under Diego Simeone, starting in 23 of them. Against Espanyol, he was replaced by Uruguayan international José María Giménez.
According to the club’s medical report, there is no contradiction between the impact and the diagnosis, and no further complications are expected at this point. A prompt return to the pitch is possible, provided his recovery continues smoothly.
