Raphinha lashes out at referees, pushes Flick and Ter Stegen after Barça’s draw with Betis
Raphinha completely lost it at the end of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis. The Brazilian wasn’t just furious with referee Gil Manzano and his assistants over some controversial calls — he also clashed with his own teammates, including coach Hansi Flick and keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who tried and failed to calm him down.
What really set him off was the final whistle being blown before Barça could take a corner during stoppage time. Furious, Raphinha stormed toward the referee to protest, brushing off attempts from Robert Lewandowski and Flick to cool him down. He even shoved away a hug from his coach, clearly still fuming over how things ended.
Ter Stegen gets caught in the middle
On the way to the tunnel, Raphinha kept going — shouting at one of the linesmen, “Don’t tell me to shut up!” and calling him “rude.” Things escalated even more when Ter Stegen, who’s currently out injured but was on the bench as captain, tried to step in to stop Raphinha from getting himself into trouble. Instead of calming down, the winger shoved the German keeper a few times — a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
The footage sparked a storm online, with some fans assuming there was beef between the two players. But sources close to the dressing room say it was just heat-of-the-moment frustration and that everything was smoothed over afterward.
A frustrating draw for Barça
The whole scene overshadowed what was supposed to be a big night for Barcelona, who missed a golden chance to put some distance between themselves and Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. With just four points separating the two and eight matches to go, every slip-up counts. Now, on top of dropping points, Flick also has to manage the mood in the locker room.
The club’s trying to keep a united front, but Raphinha’s reaction shows just how much pressure the players are under in this final stretch. As one of Barça’s key attacking threats, he’ll need to channel that fire into something positive — starting with the Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Borussia Dortmund at the Estadi Olímpic.
