Raphinha Reveals He Considered Leaving Barcelona After Copa América
Brazilian winger Raphinha has admitted that he considered leaving FC Barcelona after last year’s Copa América, revealing a period of personal and professional uncertainty. However, a phone call from new head coach Hansi Flick changed the course of his career.
In an interview with Globo Esporte, the 27-year-old shared that ongoing rumors and internal doubts made him seriously question his future with the Catalan club.
“After the Copa América, my situation was complicated. Every day there were rumors about me leaving. I started thinking about it myself because I wasn’t feeling well,” Raphinha said.
Following a disappointing previous season and physical setbacks, the Brazilian forward admitted that the pressure led him to consider walking away from the Blaugrana project.
Hansi Flick’s Call Made the Difference
What changed everything was a call from newly appointed manager Hansi Flick, who told Raphinha he wanted him to stay and prove himself.
“I spoke with my wife and told her, ‘If Flick is fair, he will see my quality.’ And I think it worked,” he added.
Since then, Raphinha has become one of the standout players under Flick, contributing with goals, assists, and leadership on the pitch.

Mental Strength and Working with a Psychologist
Raphinha also opened up about the psychological work he has done since returning from injury, which he believes has been fundamental to his resurgence.
“If your mind isn’t right, your body doesn’t respond. Working with a psychologist has helped me a lot,” he explained.
His words reflect a growing maturity and awareness, both personally and professionally, that has been evident in his performances throughout the 2024–25 season.
