Ronaldo Laments The Problematic Departures of Brazilians from Barcelona
Former forward Ronaldo Nazário expressed his sadness over how top Brazilian footballers have always left FC Barcelona under difficult circumstances, mentioning his own case as well as those of Romário, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, and Neymar. In an interview with Romário shared on YouTube, the World Cup champion with Brazil harshly criticized the club's management.
Ronaldo stated that Barcelona has had a “huge management problem for a long time,” which has led many Brazilian players to leave the club in unfriendly terms. Regarding his own situation, the former player recalled how, after a "spectacular" season, he had agreed to renew his contract with the club's management, but "five days later," he was told he couldn’t stay and was transferred to Inter Milan. "It was a punch to the stomach. I was loving the city," he remembered.
Ronaldo also referenced Romário, who played for Barcelona a few years earlier and also left the club "fighting." He recalled that Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, and Neymar also left the club under difficult circumstances. "Look at the story that Barcelona created with so many successful Brazilians, but in the end, the relationship deteriorated and ended very badly," he emphasized.
Key decisions and strained relationships
When asked about the current management of Barcelona, Ronaldo avoided commenting directly but did point out that, at key moments, the club has made decisions that were not what most fans expected. This suggests that the relationship with Brazilian players might not have been an isolated case in the club’s recent history.
Ronaldo Nazário joined FC Barcelona in 1996 from PSV Eindhoven, but despite his excellent performance, he left the club the following year for Inter Milan. Later, he became one of the most important figures in world football when he joined Real Madrid in 2002, becoming part of the famous Galácticos team.
