Strategic Renewal in Barcelona's Future
Born in Barcelona in 2002, Martín joined Barça Atlètic last season from Cornellà, where he became a key player under the management of Rafa Márquez.
Left-back Gerard Martín has extended his contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2028, as officially announced by the club this Friday in a press release.
The player signed his new deal last Thursday at the club’s offices, though the announcement was not made public until the following day.
Trust and growth under Flick
This season, Gerard Martín earned the trust of first-team coach Hansi Flick, who recognized his potential during the summer tour of the United States. This opportunity allowed him to debut officially with the senior team during La Liga’s opening match against Valencia.
Martín stepped onto the pitch at Mestalla in the 63rd minute, replacing Alejandro Balde. Since then, the 22-year-old Catalan has participated in 17 official matches for Barcelona this season, eight of them as a starter, solidifying his position as a reliable backup to Alejandro Balde at left-back.
"I'm very proud of everything I'm achieving, and I hope it all continues this way," Gerard Martín stated in comments to the club’s media. "I need to keep working hard and take advantage of every opportunity. Ultimately, the goal is to win all the titles we can, which is always Barça's objective."
