The Premier League Star Real Madrid Wants – and It's Not Trent Alexander-Arnold
Real Madrid continues its push to rejuvenate its defense and has set its sights on a rising star in the Premier League—and no, it’s not Trent Alexander-Arnold. The target is Dean Huijsen, a central defender currently playing for Bournemouth, who has attracted the attention of top European clubs thanks to his outstanding performances.
The Dutch-born center-back, who represents Spain internationally, has made 34 appearances this season for the English side, scoring three goals and providing one assist. After joining Bournemouth from Juventus, Huijsen quickly proved he was ready for top-flight football, skipping the usual adaptation period and making an immediate impact.
According to Relevo, Huijsen’s representatives have already been in contact with the Real Madrid board. While the Spanish giants have not yet formally reached out to Bournemouth, his release clause—reportedly around $66 million—would not pose a major obstacle for the club’s transfer plans.
A Signing for the Future… and the Present
Real Madrid’s strategy is clear: reinforce the backline with young talent capable of replacing veterans like David Alaba and Éder Militão, who have both struggled with injuries in recent seasons. Dean Huijsen fits that profile perfectly, with aerial strength, clean ball distribution, and valuable experience in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
Club president Florentino Pérez knows time is of the essence, as several top English clubs are also pursuing the defender. Convincing Huijsen to move to Madrid will be key, and one major selling point could be the club’s new long-term project under Xabi Alonso, who is set to take over after Carlo Ancelotti’s confirmed move to coach the Brazilian national team.
A return to Spain would not only boost Huijsen’s media profile but also increase his chances of becoming a regular for La Roja ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Real Madrid is determined to build a world-class defense, and Dean Huijsen could be one of the cornerstones of that new backline.
