Valencia vs. Real Madrid Postponed Match Rescheduled
The match from the twelfth round of La Liga, originally postponed due to the storm that struck the Valencia province, now has a scheduled date.
The postponed Valencia-Real Madrid match from the 12th round of La Liga, initially delayed due to the storm that struck the Valencia region, has now been rescheduled.
The game will take place on Thursday, January 2, at 8:00 PM (2:00 PM ET).
José Alberto Peláez, the sole judge for professional competitions, made this decision after receiving proposals from both clubs. According to his ruling, Valencia suggested January 2, while Real Madrid proposed January 5. Both dates were considered reasonable by La Liga, with the former being chosen.
"After carefully analyzing the respective proposals, it seems appropriate to schedule the match for January 2, primarily because the Copa del Rey round of 16 is scheduled for January 5, 2025, in which both clubs participate," the judge stated. Valencia has already advanced to the third round, while Real Madrid will begin their Copa del Rey campaign in this phase.
The judge further explained that if the match were scheduled for January 5, adjustments would need to be made to the Copa del Rey schedule, potentially causing disruptions for other teams. Additionally, if the match were held on January 5, it would coincide with the Reyes Magos Parade, a significant event in Valencia, which could cause traffic disruptions and security concerns near Mestalla Stadium.
Valencia's CF provided a letter from the Local Police Department, which indicated that holding the match on January 5 would be "difficult to reconcile with the Reyes Magos parade and other Christmas activities requiring significant police resources." Thus, scheduling the match on January 2 would minimize security risks and improve access to the stadium, the judge concluded.
Following the Christmas break, Real Madrid will face Valencia on January 2 in the rescheduled match, followed by their Copa del Rey round of 16 clash, which still lacks a date and opponent until the draw on Monday, and their Supercopa de España semifinal against Mallorca in Jeddah on January 9.
