Why isn’t Kylian Mbappé playing for Real Madrid against Getafe?
Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, head coach of Real Madrid, confirmed that Kylian Mbappé will miss Wednesday’s game against Getafe (3:30 p.m. ET) due to a sprained right ankle. He also avoided commenting on the whistles some fans directed at the French striker during the team’s last game at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Mbappé dealing with injury and crowd reaction
“He’s upset about the injury and not being able to help the team. He’s doing everything he can to be ready for Saturday,” said Ancelotti at the press conference, referring to the possibility of Mbappé returning for the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona on April 26.
The coach explained that even though both Mbappé and Ferland Mendy trained on Tuesday, neither is fit enough to play against Getafe — but they could both be available for the final on Saturday.
Endrick stepping up
As for young Brazilian forward Endrick, Ancelotti praised his recent progress. “Nothing in particular has changed. He’s been improving a lot, training hard, and now he’s getting more minutes because we’ve had games where we needed his power and quality,” he said.
When asked about Fran García, who was left on the bench against both Arsenal and Athletic Club, the coach said: “He’s improved this season. He’s played more and generally performed well. Sometimes I went with Camavinga instead because of the different profiles. Fran likes to stay wide, while Camavinga is more comfortable cutting inside.”
