Will Barcelona Play at Camp Nou This Season? This is The Club's Stance
FC Barcelona has requested to extend its stay at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium until the end of the season. Although the club’s management remains optimistic and assures that the Camp Nou will be ready by May, they are working on alternatives in case of further delays in the renovation. Initially, the return to their home stadium was scheduled for November 2024, coinciding with the club’s 125th anniversary, but the date was pushed back to December, then February, and finally May.
The need to vacate Montjuïc in May arose due to a series of Rolling Stones concerts planned at the venue. However, the cancellation of these events has opened the door for Barça to remain at the stadium until the season's end. The club had already secured an extension until April 23, but now it will request an additional extension from Barcelona’s city council until late May.
The delay in completing the Camp Nou renovations has sparked speculation in the Spanish press, even suggesting that the Clásico against Real Madrid could be played abroad if the stadium is not ready in time. Nevertheless, the club insists that the team will return home on May 11, a key date in the LaLiga calendar.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and the city council are close to an agreement allowing construction workers to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to accelerate the stadium’s completion. This measure aims to ensure that the venue is ready for the crucial match against Real Madrid and to prevent further setbacks.
Since June 2023, FC Barcelona has been playing its home matches at Montjuïc, a temporary solution while the Camp Nou undergoes renovations. However, significant delays in the project have led the club to explore all possible options to avoid disruptions in the season’s final stretch.
Barça remains committed to returning to Camp Nou in May, but its request to stay at Montjuïc until the end of the season shows that the club wants to be prepared for any scenario. The final decision will depend on an agreement with Barcelona’s city council and the progress of construction in the coming months.
