Will Lamine Yamal Leave Barcelona? Deco Talks About the Future of Barça’s Jewel
In an interview with TV3, FC Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, assured that Lamine Yamal will remain at the club for many years, dispelling any doubts about his future.
With one of the youngest squads in LaLiga (an average age of 23.8 years), Barça boasts a pool of emerging talents such as Pedri, Gavi, Fermín López, Pau Cubarsí, Alejandro Balde, and Marc Casadó. However, the brightest gem among them is undoubtedly Lamine Yamal. At just 17 years old, the Spanish winger represents both the present and the future of the club, and Barcelona is well aware that they might have the next best player in the world and the long-awaited heir to Lionel Messi.
"There are key players, and he is one of them. There’s no debate, no price tag. We haven’t received offers because we never even considered listening to them. It’s clear that he will stay at Barça for many years, just like Pedri and Gavi. If things are done right, they will finish their careers here. Lamine Yamal is one of the most special players. He’s not just talented; he also has a different mentality. The club must do its job, and he will be here for many years," Deco stated in the interview with TV3, sending a clear message to potential suitors.
Lamine Yamal himself has repeatedly expressed his love for Barcelona and his desire to become a club legend. His current contract runs until June 30, 2026, as Spanish regulations only allow minors to sign a maximum three-year deal. However, sources close to the club indicate that the player already has an agreement to extend his contract for four more seasons, until 2030, once he turns 18 this summer.
Deco Also Spoke About Hansi Flick
Beyond discussing Lamine Yamal, Deco also addressed the future of head coach Hansi Flick. While he wasn’t as definitive as he was about the young winger, he left the door open for the German manager to continue beyond 2026, albeit under certain conditions. "I understand the excitement about the results (Barça remains unbeaten in 2025), but we need to be reasonable. If everything continues like this, and we are happy with him, and he is happy too, we will work to ensure he stays for many more years," the Portuguese executive remarked.
Since his arrival in June 2024, Flick has made a strong impression on the team, implementing a more direct attacking style than Xavi before him. He has also placed his trust in the club’s young talents, such as Marc Bernal, before his serious injury, and Marc Casadó, a breakout star in midfield. While both the club and the fans are pleased with his work, his future at Barcelona will largely depend on his ability to win titles. Currently, after 23 LaLiga matchdays, Barcelona sits in third place, just two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
