Barcelona's pursuit of Julián Álvarez has taken another twist. According to reports in Spain, the Catalan club has now been officially notified by both FIFA and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following a formal complaint filed by Atlético Madrid.
The Spanish club alleges that Barcelona approached the Argentine striker without authorization while he remains under contract with Atlético through June 2030.
The RFEF is expected to inform Barcelona in the coming days of the deadline to submit its response before the disciplinary process moves forward.
Barcelona Believes the Complaint Will Go Nowhere
Despite the complaint, Barcelona remains confident that the case will not lead to any disciplinary action. Club officials believe they acted within the rules, pointing out that it was Julián Álvarez himself who publicly expressed his desire to leave Atlético Madrid.
While representing Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the forward openly admitted that he wanted a transfer in order to fulfill one of his career ambitions.
Barcelona also maintains that its reported €100 million offer was presented directly to Atlético Madrid rather than to the player, arguing that it fully respected transfer regulations.
Barcelona Has Not Given Up on Signing Julián Álvarez
The complaint has not ended Barcelona's interest in the Argentine international. The club still hopes a future development could reopen negotiations before the transfer window closes.
However, Atlético Madrid has remained unwavering in its position, repeatedly insisting that one of its biggest stars is not available for transfer under any circumstances.

Atlético Madrid Stands Firm
Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo was the first to publicly state that Julián Álvarez is not for sale.
That stance was later reinforced by CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who declared that the club would not sell the Argentine striker "for €100 million, €150 million, or even €200 million."
Gil Marín also revealed that the club has already communicated its position to the player, his representatives, and Barcelona president Joan Laporta, reiterating that Atlético considers Julián Álvarez a key part of its long-term project.
